The Dennis Project honors the life and legacy of founder Auntaria Johnson’s grandmother, Amelia Dennis.
Despite significant challenges, Amelia raised five children, became a grandparent, earned her GED through night school and a bachelor’s degree in education, and became a Florida-certified teacher. She taught in underserved communities in Miami-Dade county until her death in 1994.
A transformative changemaker, Ms. Dennis championed education and service—values that continue to shape TDP’s programs today.

Founded in 2012, The Dennis Project, Inc. (TDP) honors the Dennis family’s legacy of teaching, community leadership, and positive mentorship.
Despite many challenges, the Dennis women have remained guided by faith, family values, a love of learning, and a commitment to helping others. Deeply rooted in the inner-city community, they have inspired many to uplift others and create positive change.
